Little Fires Everywhere

Little Fires Everywhere focuses on two mothers fighting for dominance over the other, but with a whole other story being told underneath. No spoilers here, but the more hidden plot was super intriguing, and I loved piecing together everyone’s backstories as the series went along. It was one of those shows that at the end you just go “ohhhhh so that’s why that happened/why they did that.” It was really satisfying to uncover information that fills in what seems to be a plot hole. One of my favorite parts about this show was its entire aesthetic - it was so beautiful in a way that is almost too hard to explain. The color schemes and contrast between Mia’s and Elena’s homes were very specific to their individual personalities, and even though it’s just the background, it also helps to expand the horizons on these characters. We now know them not just through how they interact with one another, and their actions, but each specific character uses their living space to express who they really are. The art director and set decorator

did a great job of putting a lot of detail into these spaces

, and the cinematography captured everything wonderfully. Additionally, the performances were amazing. The actors took this incredible writing, and created these people that seem to be so surface level. But most of all, I really love how this show makes you think. It provokes the kind of thoughts that you feel like you shouldn’t be having, such as having your true self exposed, no matter the problems or secrets that are hidden underneath. I think that these topics are really important, especially for people who may think they have figured out who they fully are. It goes to show that even though somebody may appear flawless, everybody has their own problems. Little Fires might seem like your average “mom drama show”, but it’s a great watch for anyone.

logline: Based on Celeste Ng's 2017 bestseller, "Little Fires Everywhere" follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

My favorite characters: can i be honest here? none of the characters deserve this title - they’re all terrible people, in their own way. the actor portrayals were great, but the characters themselves were kind of...the worst? except for bill. (read below)

  • Joshua Jackson as Bill Richardson - DESERVED BETTER. he was nothing but a good husband and i feel terrible for him for reasons I cannot explain due to the amount of spoilers. is he the best guy? nope! but he’s probably the only one out of all of them that could even be a good person.

This show is rated TV-MA. Here’s why:

  • Sexual References and Nudity

  • Language

  • Alcohol and Drug Use

Something I liked: i really liked all the art that Mia created. she was so talented and i loved all of her pieces that were in the show, especially the collage-like pieces from the flashbacks.
