High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

HSMTMTS is the show we all wanted to hate. From the first teasers, it sounded like a stupid idea, another way to ruin the childhood we had so perfectly shaped in our mind. However, it proved to be the complete opposite. This show gave us a good story, actors that actually look like they’re in high school, amazing original music written by the actors, and the newest teenage heartthrob (thank you, Joshua Bassett’s parents). The series is funny, romantic, and best of all, bingeable.

logline: High School Musical: The Musical: The Series follows a high school drama club as they begin their first-ever production of High School Musical. However, the drama doesn’t just stay on the stage. Relationships are starting and ending, friendships are tested, and rivalries are formed.

My favorite characters:

  • Olivia Rodrigo as Nina Salazar-Roberts - amazing singer, songwriter, and actress. if you knew her from Bizaardvark, it’s obvious from this role that she was meant for so much more than that.

  • Joshua Bassett as Ricky Bowen - his singing voice and loveable charm made everyone fall in love with him immediately. that and the fact that he’s one of the most attractive people alive.

  • Julia Lester as Ashlyn Caswell - the sweetest girl ever. she’s the girl that everyone wants to be friends with.

  • Matt Cornett as EJ Caswell - technically an “antagonist,” but i loved how clueless he could be.

This show is rated TV-PG.

Something I liked: All of the songs in the show were amazing! I loved all the originals by Rodrigo and Bassett, and the fact that they didn’t just use the music from hsm was really cool and made it feel almost separate from the movie. Listen Here
