Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a gorgeous movie. The animation is amazing and I’ve never seen anything like it before - like regular 3D animation but mixed with comic books? It’s hard to explain, you should just watch it ;) The story is exciting and action-packed with a dash of humour here and there, but most of all it feels very real. Miles is a very relatable character, and you will feel for him as he tries to navigate this new world and new life he’s been thrust into. These Spider-People - all from different times and different universes - are all so unique from each other and nothing like the normal Spider-Man we always see, and it felt like a revival of the story, a necessary reminder as to why we love this webbed wonder. The actors were all great, the animation was beautiful, and the soundtrack feels like that last thing that really immerses you into the film, gets your heart beating out of your chest. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was such a fresh take on the Spider-Man story we all know, and its smart writing and immense attention to detail deserve as big an audience it can get.

Logline: A simple spider bite changes Miles Morales’ life forever. When five other web-slingers are tossed into his world, Miles is faced with the challenge of balancing the two lives he now lives, along with the great responsibilities his great power comes with.

Fun Fact: Every frame of the movie was refined by the artists. If you were to freeze the movie at any time, you would get an illustration with hand drawn touches. It’s just… the detail the creators put into making this movie is absolutely amazing.

My Favorite Characters:

Shameik Moore as Miles Morales - Moore played Miles so. Well. I was already charmed and rooting for Miles by the first ten minutes, and Shameik made Miles one of my favorite iterations of Spider-Man. You feel much more connected to Miles as he deals with problems beyond just beating the bad guy, like fears of filling someone’s shoes, struggling to connect with the people around you, and trying to figure out your identity in a universe that seems so big.

Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker - Peter B. Parker feels like the teacher that used to love kids and was super passionate but is now burnt out and is just trying to get through the day. He and Miles have such a hilarious duo, and I think that Peter B. was the mentor Miles didn’t want but needed. They inspire each other and Miles seemed to be the person that reminded Peter B. why he did his job, and why he became Spider-Man in the first place.

Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir - I love all of the Spider-People but for some reason Spider-Noir is my favorite. Every time this guy is on screen I always laugh out loud. I love the black and white style he’s drawn in, and his emotionally-repressed self is hilarious to watch. I’d definitely pay money to watch him in his own universe, punching Nazis, drinking egg creams, and dropping stupidly funny one-liners.

Where to Watch: Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play for purchase.

Rating: PG for animated action violence and thematic elements(can someone tell me what this means oops)

Spoilers on this one, obviously. I just wanted to put it in here to explain some of the cool animation details they put in, as well as a lot of easter eggs and parts I didn’t catch when I first watched it :)
