Filled with tons of dark humor, a healthy dose of hatred, and some truths that we all needed to hear, Sam Jay’s comedy special “Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning” is a hilarious, uncensored look at the world through Sam Jay’s eyes. I’m not going to pretend I know her comedy or stand-up, but she does write for SNL and I love SNL, and after watching this special I am interested in seeing more of her for her self-aware and immensely creative writing. Many a time she thinks up situations I have never even conceived, such as her theory on airplane bathroom chemicals or the fact that women don’t pee standing up. What is up with that? And why have I never thought about that? Sam Jay has. I loved her bits and tangents, as well as the overarching story of her trip to Europe with her girlfriend - though I wished we got to hear another anecdote of their shroom filled trip to the museum. Her humor is fast and smart - she never says anything without a point - and even while laughing out loud my brain would still be fully processing her jokes as she moved on to the next topic. Parts of the special flew by me, which makes sense - we have different ages, backgrounds, ideas - but I could find many of her thoughts relatable to me and to really any age. Even in the moments where I couldn’t relate at all I still laughed because Jay brings you into her world and gives you that perspective. And for the people that can relate? I’m sure it’s even funnier. On top of all of that, Jay shares some truths and makes mic-drop statements for you to hold on to even after the special is over. Behind every joke is a bit of truth, and I liked the fact that she would stop and say something serious that you can take away without sacrificing the humor in her story or point. I really enjoyed Sam Jay’s new special, “Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning”, and I definitely recommend you give it a watch.
