haha i am SCARED of this show. because it’s terrible. well, where do i even begin? let’s work our way through the badges and why insatiable ultimately fails every test. first up, acting! wow, you think debby ryan’s bad in jessie? just wait til you see insatiable. it’s….bad. really bad. however, it did spawn the wonderful, wonderful meme of her little crinkly hands as she walks away. AHAHAHAHHA if you have no idea what i’m talking about, just….here. timestamp - 2:36. just- PLEASE MS. RYAN I CANNOT. moving along, the directing! it’s just…gross. which one of you crazy kids at netflix thought it was a good idea to put this show in the deep south of the us??? um, yikes. it’s the absolute lack of representation for me. there were two black girls (one was only half), and at some point in the show, they were both antagonists. two asian characters, one is a main antagonist, and one is just…dumb. basically every single other person in this show is WHITE. onto the writing! wow, the story is just very very strange. you might have read the “logline” above this editorial, which is from imdb. here’s a more accurate one: girl is fat, gets bullied, gets skinny, becomes pageant queen, acts like a bad person after she gets “hot”, kills people. i do think that the writer’s intentions were in the right place, but they just could not pull it off. the people that you find on the internet defending the show also has their heart in the right place! however, if you’re looking to get “revenge on your bullies” (which is not the right choice, please take the high road) why MURDER? the show grossly oversimplified how serious murder is. not just from a legal standpoint, but from a moral standpoint. unless you’re absolutely pushed to, acting in self defense, taking someone’s life is just such a big no-no. this show was very clearly written by 45 year olds who actually think that teenagers are talk about/do these kinds of things, as opposed to their….idk college apps, maybe? not only was the plot incredibly stupid, every single one of the characters were either bad people, over stereotyped, or just...dumb. firstly, why is patty only beautiful AFTER she gets skinny? she has the exact same face, and the only thing different is that she’s...skinny. why? especially in today’s society, doing something like that is like hopping in a maserati and flooring it off a fucking cliff. it’s really just...horrible. i can’t think of another word to describe it. shouldn’t the show really try and portray the message that all bodies are beautiful? moving onto the other characters, i am very confused. the bobs are very strange. coralee, dixie, regina, roxy, and stella rose were all insane and should be placed in mental hospitals. magnolia and christian both needed help. brick (i hate that stupid name so much), nonnie, angie, and donald really just deserve better than being in this. insatiable SCREAMS misrepresentation and problematic. i would never in a million years recommend this show to anyone. i definitely wouldn’t recommend it to someone who has or had issues with their self-image. i wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. maybe the only reason why i’d recommend it is just for the f*ckin memes, dude. watch for crinkle hand and intense walking.

my favorite characters (and why they deserve better than this show):

  • Michael Provost as Brick Armstrong - wow, aside from his dumbass name, i really just feel bad for brick. he was manipulated multiple times, his parents really weren’t that supportive of him, and overall just was not havin a good time. i would’ve loved for the writers to give him some more depth besides just being the eye candy. yeah, he’s hot, but he can be hot and smart, right?

  • Kimmy Shields as Nonnie Thompson - all stand for the “token gay character”! all of season 1, the only thing nonnie was used for was pining after patty and then getting a girlfriend. that’s it. at least in season 2, she got some depth and was more than just the literal gay best friend. she was smart, funny, and probably the ONLY good person on this whole show. justice for nonnie.

this show is rated TV-MA. here’s why:

  • Violence and Some Gore

  • Sexual Content

  • Language

  • Frightening and Intense Scenes
