truth be told, i’m usually not a huge fan of period pieces, but i enjoyed bridgerton! i really liked that most of the actors were kind of unknown, as i now get to stalk and follow a bunch of them before they become popular. however, i wish that the cast was given more time to shine, cause a lot of the time they were trying their absolute best to make the mediocre writing interesting. although the writing wasn’t revolutionary, it was still enough to keep me hooked enough to binge the entire show in one sitting. one plotline that i was very invested in was eloise’s mission to find out the true identity of lady whistledown. the romance was fun, but the show is definitely worth watching just for eloise’s mission. anything that the show was lacking in the writing department, it was made up with the directing. everything was so visually stunning, especially the sets. maybe it’s just because having this lifestyle and living in a regency era house is something that i would kill for, but stilllllll. the aesthetic was spot on, and made the show easier to watch. something a little weird about bridgerton was the string quartet versions of pop songs. yeah, it’s exactly what it sounds like. early into the first episode, i heard ‘thank u, next’, and yeah, it’s a banger but damn that just kinda killed the mood for me. i understand that sometimes shows will do this in order to keep the connection between the era and modern day, but this REALLY doesn’t do it for me. although at parts there were strange shifts in tone, bridgerton was overall a very fun watch, and i enjoyed it! if you’re into period pieces and romance, this is 100% the perfect show for you.

my favorite characters:

  • Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton - yeah yeah yeah we love a woke ass queen! she was aware of those gender stereotypes and was having NONE of it. she was smart, funny, and a great friend. i’d definitely want her on my side in a debate. the sibling bond she had with anthony and her friendship with penelope were some of my favorite parts in the whole show, and i can’t wait to see how she grows as a character in season 2!

  • Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton - we stan the overprotective older brother! i love anthony very very much. although he did have some moments where he was kinda douchy, he was a great character, and always made me smile.

  • Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington - the softest girl ever. although i haven’t seen all of derry girls, i predicted that nicola would be great in bridgerton, and i was RIGHT. penelope was adorable and very underrated throughout the show. i hope she’s utilized more in season 2, and i hope she finally confesses her love to the guy she likes :(

this show is rated TV-MA. Here’s why:

  • Sexual Content and Nudity

  • Mature Content

something i liked: i know i talk about costumes all the damn time, but wowiee the fits in this show. they are incredible. i mean, i wouldn’t steal the featherington’s clothes, but yeah i want daphne’s ENTIRE closet please hand it over. it deserves all the hype.

number of seasons: 1, renewed for season 2
