High Fidelity

If you’ve seen my review for Fleabag, you’d know that I live for the fourth wall breaking. Hearing about High Fidelity from friends, I was worried that they would be too similar for me to enjoy, but I was pleasantly surprised. High Fidelity is cool, stylish, and the type of renewal that isn’t forced and/or a direct copy of the original(not gonna call anything out cause I’m a coward). All of the characters are complex and they have their flaws, and the three main friends(Rob, Cherise and Simon) have such great chemistry as does Rob and all of her love interests. The characters aren’t the only great part about the show, though, the music and soundtrack are also amazing. Don’t worry, I’m not going to spit my music opinions at you, just wanted to take the opportunity to say that all of the music supervisors did an excellent job of putting together the soundtrack, which you can find here. Music is even more essential in a show like this because of how central it is in the characters’ lives, so major props to everyone who worked on that. Lastly, I wanted to give kudos to the writers. They did such a good job displaying Rob’s journey on getting over her lost love and her hesitance to let others into her life that I started to talk/yell at Rob like she was a friend, or y’know, like she could actually respond. I strongly suggest you try High Fidelity out, you won’t regret it.

logline: A record store owner revisits past relationships through music and pop culture while trying to get over her one true love.

Fun Facts: Zoë Kravitz’s mom starred in the original movie of the same name. The movie itself was based on a novel by Nick Hornby.

My Favorite Characters:

Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Cherise - her energy is radiant and she’s hilarious, and she shows her own development as a character over the season - I looove character development.

David H. Holmes as Simon - Simon is really sweet and such a good friend to Rob, always the voice of reason. Watch out for his solo episode, it’s really good.

Zoë Kravitz as Rob - music intellectual™, seems like someone who I’d like to be friends w but is too cool, a great person but she’s got her flaws but it makes her very human and relatable and I love it

Jake Lacy as Clyde - I’m pretty sure he was supposed to just be Plain Nice Boy but I gotta appreciate the chemistry between him and Rob, so good !!
