Vewn

Do you ever just go on youtube and search up like “animated short films” and just scroll through a bunch of weird 3D cringy animations? I swear I’ve seen that Cleopatra one a hundred times… Personally, that style doesn’t suit my taste, and so I ventured into the beautiful world of 2D animation(cell animation?) and found some fantastic short films like the crazy “There’s a Man in the Woods” or the lighter, absurd “Butter Lover.” If you’re looking for more from this genre, turn to Victoria Vincent and her calling card on YouTube, Vewn. Vewn’s contorted and vibrant style of animation matched with the class(got that from Derry Girls) voice acting and eclectic scores of her short films make Vewn one of the best in the game. The films range from a minute to nine minutes, and all of them are super fast-paced and interesting. I love these films because they always leave you with something to think about, whether it’s about meaningless day jobs, consuming video games, or unmotivational motivational videos. Possibly my favorite one of hers is Twins in Paradise, which features two tennis-playing twins with opposing wishes struggling to face their dead mother as they prepare for a big tennis match. That gives you a very vague idea of what actually happens, but just watch it - you won’t be disappointed. Not only does Vewn have cool videos but she also has a shop with some super dope merchandise, including clothing and prints. There’s something for anyone, so what are you waiting for? Check her out!
